Bomust Nut Cracker

I am not a big fan of nuts, you can chew on them all you want – but they just don’t seem to do it for me. This is not to say that a lot of people do not enjoy nuts and or enjoy cracking their own nuts too. Normally nut crackers are something like a pair of pliers and you simply put the nut in the middle and squeeze.

However modern design once again re-writes the rule book with the Blomus nut cracker (Panik Design). The concept here is ls simple, put the nut in the bottom half and screw down with the handle and there you have it – cracked nuts.

They’re pink, pearly and fun and a very kitsch way to present your napkins to your dinner guests. Their manufactureres maybe more famous for the TV or for their trains, but Virgin are now even branching into homeware.  For £20.00 you can expect a set of four these napkin holders as well as a little extra detail to your dining experience. When creating a stunning home it is quite often the small details that make a home really special.

If you are a football fan like me you will love this coat rack. What better way of reminding you about the offside rule than the “offside coat rack”. Although I spent quite a while trying to work out which one of these players is offside I couldn’t quite get it – so no different to understanding the real offside rule then.

With screaming references to the table son of football, fossball, the rack comes with five red or five green players and a polished aluminum casing.  Scandinavian company Huest-Shop have truly come up with a great product.

Nothing could be simpler in concept than this great Droog Design light, it’s simply a six watt light blub with a sticker on the back to attach it to the walls, windows, roofs or wherever you want. All you need is a little bit of creative imagination and you could easily create great lighting effects.

Each individual lamp costs £17.50 from Dutch by Design, the only thing that you may need to consider is where you are going to plug all those lamps in if you have several in a single place.

heals_water_butt_and_can.jpg

In the age of being “Green”, this watering butt and can are a great way to make your garden look good and be “Eco” too. It’s butt can be wall mounted and holds up to 36 litres of water, with the can itself holding a good 1.5 litres. Although not specifically intented to collect rain water I am sure with a little thought it could quite easily be made to do so. It always rains in the UK – even in Summer – so there is no excuse for not trying to use it to help the planet and garden too.

Costing £60.00 from Heals this is a great excuse to get rid of that awful green, garden centre, plastic watering can.

sainsburys_bamboo_soap_dish.jpg

Trendy, chic and made from bamboo, this set of soap dish and dispenser bring a sense of the tropics to your bathroom. At £4.99 and £7.99 each from Sainsburys (selected stores only) they needn’t make a hole the size of a rain forest in your pocket either.

Man in a bow tie mirror

Product code MA041, but I like to call it “the man in the bow tie”. It kind of looks like a man in a bow tie to me anyway. This is a classic art deco with a 1920’s design, clean lines and a central focal point. I’d have this in my hallway any day of the week and at £449 there is no price for classic design.

As the photo shows this is from mirrorworld.co.uk

halon_technicolour_throw1.jpg

Add a little colour to any room with this magical technicolour throw, maybe a brave choice for some but a great way to hide an old sofa and add some spice at the same time. Throws can really add aesthetic value to a space if used correctly, using bland looking or tired throws may cover up something you’d rather hide but won’t add anything to the room.

At £25.00 a throw (excuse the pun!) Halo Living are practically throwing (Sorry!) these away.

chigo_gold_leather_cushion.jpg

From Chigo comes the ultimate in leather products – a gold leather cushion. I presume it didn’t come from the hide of a golden cow. Really something special to have around the house, I guess it won’t suit every type of room, maybe a boudoir type setup would go nicely with it.

At £34.95 it may be an idea to scatter these around as you won’t be having a bed / sofa full of gold cushions.

bsh_vintage_birdcage.jpg

Add a little good old fashioned style to your home with this vintage birdcage, ideal for storing fruit in and something totally different from the norm. Theres a little door for you to get to those apples , oranges or whatever else you choose to put in the cage.

This would go great with a traditional Oak style kitchen or dining room.

To buy the birdcage and for more information go to BHS’ website.
